Our purpose is to provide safe, culturally appropriate and affordable accommodation for First Nations people who need to be away from home to access services and economic opportunities. 

Across its network of hostels, dedicated Aboriginal Hostels Limited (AHL) staff provide accommodation and meals for residents in a supportive environment, assisted by local First Nations service providers and referral agencies.

AHL also supports the Australian Government’s efforts to improve economic outcomes for First Nations people. By purchasing goods and services from First Nations businesses at every opportunity, we help support a more inclusive economy. We are proud to be one of the largest employers of First Nations people in the Australian Public Service, First Nations employees make up approximately 50% of our workforce.

AHL is looking for a Project Officer who will provide valuable support to the NSW/VIC Hostels. Attention to detail and strong organisation skills are essential to ensure timeframes are met with accuracy and order. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to engage with others, working as a team to meet requirements. The successful candidate will have experience in and passion for training and development of staff is required. 
 

The key duties of the position include:
  • Support the team to ensure the effective service delivery of safe, affordable and culturally appropriate services across the region are in line with AHL’s strategic direction and the APS Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Assist with the completion of operational administration (including risk, finance, payroll and compliance processes) to ensure they are carried out within AHL’s required timeframes, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Participate in and coordinate HR related matters including staff recruitment activities, training, performance management and probationary processes across the region.
  • Work alongside Hostel Managers to provide administrative support.
  • Support the team in achieving occupancy outcomes throughout the region.
  • Other duties as directed. 
Eligibility
  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Undergo a Satisfactory National Criminal History Check (prior to engagement)
  • Meet Fitness for Duty requirements (prior to engagement)
  • Hold or obtain relevant qualifications.
